No. Right now, I'm not a follower of any God. Until I can get solid proof, It's all illusions and stories fabricated by men over time. I guess I''m a neutral. Religion...Now that is a deep subject.

Appeal to Authority

by PeterL on 03-23-2017 at 06:25 PM
This is another in my occasional series of logical fallacies. Appeal to Authority (Latin argumentum ad verecundiam) is quite popular, and some people think that it operates as a trump card. If old So-and-So says so, then it must be true. Well, that's not how one wins an argument; the one with the best facts and the logic wins. Even if your authority is a recognized authority on the subject at hand you have to present the data and the logical argument, but it is more common for people to cite an

Nullification

by PeterL on 03-19-2017 at 04:15 PM
I had thought that the horrible 2016 election cycle was over, but three woman have filed a federal court action that could result in the 2016 presidential election being tossed out. I am sure that the text of their action is available online somewhere, but I donít know where. From what I managed to find out, this suit is in regard to Russian actions to affect the election, and their claim is under the Guarantee Clause of the Constitution.

"Allegations are that the U.S. government

Better time

by PeterL on 03-09-2017 at 08:58 PM
Itís getting near that time when the government dictates that the hour of the day change. Yes, they are doing that again, even though it is disadvantageous to everyone. If we have to change the clocks again, then it should be for a better system. Perhaps we should question the whole system of hours, minutes, and seconds. And we certainly should wonder why it is claimed that midnight is the beginning of the day; we, except for the Bureau of Standards which thinks that the day ends immediately after

As Bad As It Gets

by PeterL on 02-26-2017 at 08:35 PM
I have been following U.S. politics for a while, and the presidents have all had some peculiarities. The best that I can remember myself was Eisenhower, who didn't seem to do any more than necessary; apparently he read and understood the Constitution. JFK was big on appearances; he talked things up, but he didn't get very done before a bullet stopped him. Johnson actually got a lot done; although some people would have preferred that he did less. I find it interesting that he is sometimes given

Writing Fiction versus Writing Non-Fiction

by PeterL on 02-15-2017 at 05:24 PM
Recently, I was talking to someone about some of the works of Samuel L. Clemens, AKA Mark Twain. I was encouraging the other person to read Roughing It and Life on the Mississippi, both of which are memoirs, rather than fiction. Then we touched on the matter of most of Twainís fiction not being all that good. But that made sense, because Twain was a reporter of considerable experience, so he wrote in a reportorial fashion.

Good reporters are honest people who are inclined to accurately
