I took JS to the doctor today and he was sent home with a clean bill of health. The doctor said that he is to come back again in 18 months. He has gained weight, but he wants to be sure he continues to make more gains. Hence, the continued nightly milkshakes. As for his walking, he also felt confident that he would soon be walking. He said it was not a matter of strength, but balance. He took three steps to me many times today. I think it will be happening sooner than later. It is so hard to have these conversations that eliminate the possibilty of autism when your kid is just not following the "norms" of development. I felt good, but had real insight into parents who have to face the fact that their child may have autism.

    Happy Mother's Day!
JS has been known to take 3 steps, but I have yet to see it. We are going to the doctor on the 13th. Not for the foot, but b/c he is so small. He isn't gaining enough weight. He isn't a big eater. We put cream in his bottle to help fatten him up and give him ice cream. I give him donuts and cookies as well.
    How is your angel?

Hey Puss, I have a question for you. Little Jersea is 13.5 months and not walking. He's pulling himself up, walking along things while holding on- but still not walking. How old was Matthew when he started to walk? I feel like it is never going to happen and it drives me crazy.

Hi pussnboots thanks for posting that blog entry. I'm glad you had your say. It sounds like you're doing just great, you know what you're doing (as much as any parent ever does). As to Virgil trusting your opinion, I'm sure he does but everything's new and it feels kind of strange at the beginning and it takes a bit of working out. Having a child can have a big impact on your relationship, and it can take a little time to adjust. So long as you're talking to each other and love each other (as it always sounds like you do) you'll work things out. You're a strong family. And you're both good parents, even if sometimes you come at things from a different angle. If nothing else, there'll come a point when Virgil can't pick Matthew up anymore, and that will solve that problem

It's always good to read about how you're getting on as a family. I hope you're all well and happy. Love Fifth

One Year Ago Today

by pussnboots on 05-18-2011 at 06:50 AM
One year ago today my husband and I fell in love with a very special little boy. It is still so fresh in my mind. I remember being nervous and excited all at the same time. The nurse bringing him into the room and placing him in my arms, our hearts just melted and we knew right away this was our son. It took us 3 long years but he was well worth the wait!!!.

They proceeded to tell us his medical history and his background of how he came to be at the Baby House. I cannot thank

Early Intervention

by pussnboots on 03-21-2011 at 02:14 PM
We have decided to go ahead and see if Matthew really needs Early Intervention. Does this mean that we feel Matthew needs it? No, not necessarily but we owe it to him to find out. Our pediatrician filed the paperwork for us and last week I met with someone.

The woman came to the house and walked me thru the process. The next step in the process is having Matthew evaluated. This will take place this Thursday in our home. I’m actually glad that they come to me so they can see

Matthew’s Eye Surgery

by pussnboots on 03-17-2011 at 02:26 PM
As many of you know, Matthew has strabismus (crossed eyes) and his surgery to correct this is tomorrow. It will be done in the morning and should be home later that day. We have to be at the hospital at 8:00 AM and the poor little guy can’t have anything to eat after midnight tonight and can’t have anything to drink after 6:00 AM the morning of the surgery. If I do give him something to drink it can only be water, pedialyte or apple juice.

The surgery itself usually takes 20

Follow Up to Virgil’s Last Blog on Matthew

by pussnboots on 02-07-2011 at 08:34 AM
Initially I was going to do a follow-up blog from Virgil’s blog about Matthew and the pediatrician, then I changed my mind. Fifth and Jersea convinced me to respond from my perspective. I do not mean to offend anyone with my comments (just want that to be clear) after all I am the one that spends most of the time with Matthew everyday (no offense Virgil) and I think I know him best.

Most of what Virgil stated is fairly accurate. At this point in time I am not too disturbed with

The Great Whiz

by pussnboots on 09-19-2010 at 08:33 PM
Before we put Matthew to bed every night, Daddy plays with him to tire him out some more. Well tonight something funny happened and am glad to announce that it didn't happen to me (at least not yet). Here's the background:

Daddy: I think he peed
Me: OK, just let me get his jammies and I'll change him

I put Matthew down and start taking off his diaper.

Me: OMG!! Matthew what did you do ?
Daddy: Did he pee ?
Me: He crapped and it's
