Well, that is noble, Athiest. Hope I didn't cause offense. It is a good cause. I've gotten burnt on charities, though--because sadly many are scams...and even if they aren't, I don't think they always spend money wisely. We have a local charity that is legit that tries to grant wishes of dying children (not Make a Wish, which does the same thing). There are two problems. One, dying children often have dreams about doing something that is beyond their capacity. Two, even if they could do the thing--by the time the money is raised, they are usually too sick to enjoy them. Sadly, it seems easier to cause problems than to fix them. As I've grown older, I'm beginning to appreciate just how difficult it is to fix the world's problems. Not saying we shouldn't try...but it isn't as easy as throwing money at it usually.

Well, unless you are running a charity drive and you want to play on people's sympathies--so they'll give you money you can steal later--nobody likes to see an ugly, half-dead baby.

May I just say that I've been reading the thread on where philosophy becomes drivel, and whilst we may well be poles apart in our religious beliefs, I just love the way you argue your corner. There doesn't seem to be a single purely emotive answer, but they are all well thought out, convincing and put in an appealing way. Oh, if only I had your arguing skills!! That being the case, I have no intention in getting involved in a theocratic discussion, because I'd come out of it bruised and battered, although I do agree that the churches have been the biggest cause of problems that mankind has ever suffered. Thanks for keeping me well informed, and, if I may say, entertained. I shall watch with bated breath.

How have you been? I see you're following the World Cup - it's been a crazy one, hasn't it? Originally I was rooting for the United States and Italy...but we both saw what happened with that. However, I'm now hoping that Ghana will make it at least to the semis; who knows? And since the beginning, I've felt that, no matter who they're facing, Argentina will be in the finals...they have too much offensive power!

Anyway, I didn't mean to bore you with my take on the football! I have 2 poems that I just posted to my blog - would you care to take a look? I have plenty more new ones that I've been writing, but I figured I would let people digest those first!
