I currently have only the second cat I've ever owned. However, I am a volunteer at my local animal shelter, and so I play with lots of cats, and get to see the ways in which they are similar. However, there are still probably lots of things our cats do that seem unusual - maybe even unique - but we wouldn't know for sure unless we hear from others and compare notes. I'm always puzzled by how my cat Eleanor seems to enjoy watching a flushing toilet. To her, it's much better than any television show on the air. Does anyone else have a cat that does this?
no, but that's hilarious! my cats enjoy catching lizards that climb on our backyard walls...sometimes i get an unpleasant surprise of a bird right outside the backdoor sliding door that they left me...which can be annoying since i have to dispose of the poor thing!
I have had several cats in my small apartment - I used to give temporary shelter to stray cats, plus I have always had my own cats - but neither of them payed too much attention to the toilet flush, so you can call your Eleanor a unique cat. My Panteleymonas - I called him after a Greek village - likes drinking using his paw. He dips his foreleg into the water in his bowl and after it licks the water of his paw. Of course when he is really thirsty he drinks as other animals do but most of the times he drinks using one of his forelegs. The other unusual habit is touching my face the way the babies do when I pick him up. I think he behaves this way because he believes that he is a human creature, because he has never seen his mother - I got him when his eyes were closed.
Wow, Olga - did you have to feed him with an eyedropper when he was that young?
Yes I did, but you can get a feeding bottle in a pet shop as well as cat milk substitute. He was not the first cat I brought up this way. He was found in the street, the others were found in dustbin or in a bag next to the store. People can be cruel not only with each other but with animals as well.
I once had a cat that loved to eat corn on the cob. It was hilarious to watch him eat it. He lived to be almost 22 years old and he had all kinds of strange and funny behaviors. He also loved olives and he would lick the juice from one until it was dry as a raisin and then roll it around the house and play with it forever.
That's a riot, rozreads. I think I'll try giving some corn on the cob to Eleanor - I want to have her around as long as possible. So far she hasn't taken too favorably to people food, though.
on Olgas post my aunts cat drinks with his paw too. quite cute My cat Gypsy pees in the drain - how strangely clever is he !
