Nothing could have prepared him for this moment. He cleared his throat, looked around him, and steadily walked ahead. In the distance the darkness contracted like a tunnel, in the centre a single point of light. He walked towards it, regulating his pace. He had to step carefully: he knew what happened when you didn't.

There were no sounds, not even of his footsteps. He walked slowly toward the light, looked over his shoulder once, and seeing nothing, continued onward. He wondered why his breathing had no sound either. Was he breathing?

    This is fun.

He wondered why his breathing had no sound either. Was he breathing? Everything around him was silent and deserted. Nothing but his weary body and tired footsteps to accompany him. He fought an urge to just turn back and walk away, but something inside kept him going. He thought he heard a familiar voice; singing a song he heard before but couldn't remember now. Then, just as he was about to reach the light, he turned his head upward. What he saw he could never describe.

A city lay above the chasm, like a golden comb filled with ethereal light. Could it be or was it just a mirage? The curving towers rose from the cave walls like hands to heaven, bleached as whale bone.

I know, it's no good, anyone want to continue this or fix it?

A city lay above the chasm, like a golden comb filled with ethereal light. Could it be or was it just a mirage? The curving towers rose from the cave walls like hands to heaven, bleached as whale bone. He decided to try his fate at this city. He reached up and found a ledge and with his right hand griped a inplanted stone half sticking out of the ground and with his left hand found the woody stem of a bush and with all his strength lifted himself up to the ledge. On the ledge there was lots of light and he could suddenly see about him.

Nothing: no people anyway, just that light, sweet and oppressive. The land stretched out like a bowl, in the centre a metropolis of towers reaching, blindingly, towards a sky he couldn't see. Golden towers, curled and graceful like something out of an Escher painting...or perhaps not Escher, more Hieronymous Bosch. For the first time he felt afraid. Was he breathing? Hadn't he asked that before? if he had there had been no answer. How did he get here?

And more importantly, whatever happened to the people of the city? No sounds transpired, no sweet scents, no children' voices, who could ever leave such beauty behind? And would he find it's secret by walking into the dim corridor that beckoned under the glare of faint golden light?

Was it the Atlantis of his forefathers, or something completely new? He walked towards the dim gloom, both fear and hope in his step.
