Big Two-Hearted River

From a New Jersey Apartment to a New York Basement ... No Difference

Rate this Entry
We're set to move tomorrow. The tenants, living in what will be my new apartment, were suppose to move out on the thirteenth, or that's what my new landlord heard. Well, they're moving on the thirtieth.

The people helping us are free on Fridays and next Friday is Christmas and the following is the New Year, so it has to be tomorrow. Luckily, in this situation of course, my mother in-law lives in the apartment above the one we are waiting to move into. So, we'll be moving our belongings into the basement ... ok, mostly my wife's belongings, because the books stay with me. When they move out, on the thirtieth, we move in.

What kind of comedy would my life be if there wasn't another plot twist: my wife leaves to Switzerland on the twenty-ninth.

I'll be moving the stuff myself mostly, but I'll be able to christen the apartment. No, not that way. I'm a bibliophile. The first thing I'm going to do is unpack all of my books, spread them out, walk back and forth to admire the covers and perhaps take a nap among them. It's what I did when I moved in to my Jersey apartment and pretty much how I lived in Montana.

Good thing you don't have to move those books too far -- I did a fair share of cursing my own when we moved.

Life can get complicated, can't it? But if you think your life is a comedy now, wait until you have to live just a flight of stairs away from your mother-in-law. Maybe it will turn into a tragedy.

Lol, whenever I rearrange my books I always like spreading them out on the floor and admiring them. A nap among them? tempting, but I'm too sensitive about them to allow myself to let them get wrinkled up

For some reason I thought you were still in high school. Your life currently sounds fun and interesting. Have fun napping among your books.

I love my books. I have a big ol' shelf of them-actually four of them. They are mostly ratty paperbacks that I've had for years.

Moving books is a major pain because they are so heavy, but a house without books and cats is a dreary house to me.

Good luck to you. I hope you like the in-law, mother-in-law.
