Guess how much sleep I got last night? "None!" would be the correct answer to this rather rhetorical question.

I thought I had my sleep problems under control. I had adopted some new habits and was doing so well. Bah!

My brother is a recovered drug addict who replaced his crazy bad habits with nutso good habits. He invited me to begin the new year with a body cleansing diet that is supposed to "restart my digestive process." This diet includes eating beans and spinach, no sugar, no fat for a week, and then concluding with a spectacular three day fast of nothing but water. I was tempted, but with school beginning soon, I cannot afford to be light headed and lethargic.

I have a ten gallon aquarium that I am dying to set up, but I'm unsure where to put it. The question is space, and I don't know the answer, but I am moving clutter 'round and working on it. I plan on putting a very small goldfish into this tank and marveling as it grows. I may get ten years out of a fish that size in a tank this size.

My husband will freak about a new pet because my fish keeping hobby is taking over our house. That should be fun to watch.

I was up all night, as mentioned previously, so I took this test that is supposed to examine my worldview. Apparently the author of this quiz believes that if your worldview is truly Biblical that you will be politically and socially conservative. I was given the results as being of a Secular Humanist worldview and on the health care, education, and family sections I scored Socialist. Apparently Socialism is the opposite of Biblical.

Last night I also changed my Lit Net profile a half dozen times. Go look.

Now I am off to church. Maybe they can work some of that socialism out of me.

A possibly interesting sidenote (and some thoughts on political theory I think may not infringe on the current politics rule).

In the UK, I believe I am correct in saying that a large proportion of catholics are socialist leaning (at least in elections). Now a lot of this probably has it's origins in Northern Ireland - The Conservative Party for a long time in the UK was fully titled the Conservative & Union Party, this of course had a divisive effect. But there are also other factors, I have had discussions with more than a few religious people who have argued to me that some of the main tenents of Socialism for them go more with their interpretation of Love Thy Neighbour than those of Free market Capatalism.

Such tests are stupid. I'm not even going to look. I know my political orientation and my values.

Just a note on your brother's comment. I'm not a doctor or an expert, so take this from what it's worth; it comes from things i may have read here and there. There is no such thing as "cleansing" body of impurities or whatever. Things don't remain in your intestines or colon, as I've heard one commercial advertise, or in your blood or whatever. You don't need to fast or go through some special diet. Your liver and kidneys and normal blood flow will get rid of everything that doesn't belong there. If it can't, then a diet won't do anything. Those fasts are way more harmful than any good, and frankly I can't perceive any good coming from them.

Aaaccck! On your new prfile background. It's too hyperactive. Even at the gym I'm not like that.

Exile, I know what you are talking about. Here is the U.S. it seems that this is a difference between many Catholics and Evangelical Protestants. The Evangelicals are the ones who tend to mix capitalism and patriotism with religion. That test was composed by an Evangelical group. Some of the questions that I scored low on were things like me thinking that God doesn't approve of war or the death penalty. Whether it is justified to man or not, whether these things are necessary evils or not, I doubt us killing each other pleases God. According to the test, those are socialist views.

Virgil, I agree with you about the cleansing. My brother experiments with this type of stuff all the time and I do not chastise him because he is so much healthier than he used to be. For someone like me who does not practice fasting and such, it is probably very dangerous.

Andave, my profile is the result of a sleep deprived mind.

I would not say Catholics in the US trend to socialism or to the left in general Psyche. While it's closer to being split down the middle than for Evangelicals, I think Catholics have been trending to the right in the last 15 to 20 years, perhaps mostly on the abortion issue. There was no one more identified with Conservatism than William F. Buckley, and he was Catholic to the core. I don't know what the split was in this past election, but it would not surprise me if they did not vote for the winner.

I'm also one those few people who refuse to register or give up personal info to an organization I feel has already made it its mind which way the test is going to go. So no test for me. Consider me a crabby Christian. I really did not like the tone of the website but I tend to be suspicious of almost any institution.

Mtspur, you don't have to register to take the test. You can pass that part up, I did.

I forgot to mention the funniest part about taking that quiz. At the end they offer to sell you a mountain of Bible studies, classes on tape, etc. to help "fix" your worldview. If you have your teen take the quiz, you can fix them by sending them off to weekend retreats that appear to be of the style shown in the Jesus Camp movie.

Virgil, I was mostly speaking of the Catholics in my community and what I hear of Catholic media. I agree that my evidence was very anecdotal, but aside from the abortion issue, I hear some very liberal views commonly among Catholics.

Just for the record Psyche of the nine supreme court justices, five are Catholics, all appointed by Republican presidents: Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Clearence Thomas, John Roberts, and Samual Alito. I would say all five of them are fairly to very conservative.

I hate it when I don't sleep and I hate tests even more. Right now it is 8pm and I am on my last legs (I get up at 5am to walk every morning) so I am not even going to attempt the test.

I can speak from experience ditch the detox they do not work and in some cases can make you worse. Eat health five out of seven days and drink plenty of water ever day and you system will love you forever.

I am off to look at the profile page and than off to hopefully get some sleep - I hope you caught up on yours.

Virgil, you never cease to impress me.

Jo, I like your suggestion. If I eat healthy five days, does that mean I can eat junk the other two? I think I can live with that.

I'm with Virgil on the cleansing diets. They are nonsense. For example, some quacks claim that when you smell funny while fasting it's because the toxics are coming out of your body. In reality it's because your sweat smells weird when you don't eat enough. But if it keeps your brother busy and away from drugs, I guess it's a good thing.
