First of all I want to express my gratitude for everyones thoughtful and supportive comments to this matter. I do apperciate all of which you have said.

I have been in touch with my frined today, and it appears between my talking to him last night, as well as his wife, and one of his other close frineds talking to him, he no longer has the intent and desire to kill himself, of which naturally came as a great releif to me.

So it seems things are going to pull through.

    That is good news. But see he didn't really want to do it. Most people don't.

    I guess what you and his wife told him must have been very powerful to make him change his mind like this... Either this or he was not that serious about suicide, as Virgil says. I would tend to agree with Virgil on this one. Anyway, glad to know that you can now relax about this.

    But let me add, I still think this man has a problem. He needs to see a doctor (psychiatrist) at a minimum.

    Well you are intitiled to your opinion about that, I happen to disagree inspite of all and I am the one who personally knows him. And well neither one of us are the type of people to go in for that sort of thing.

    Thats good to hear DM. But it may be a good idea to keep an eye on your friend all the same. Spend more time with him, and make them know that suicide wasnt the answer.

    I'm glad to hear this worked out well DM. You know, I think you did the right thing. In the end it is an individual choice, and if you love someone you want them to be happy whatever that means. Letting your friend know that you support him, whatever his choice, may be the thing that made him think twice. Sometimes when people try to help it just pushes the person further away. You are clearly a good friend, it must take incredible courage to accept someone's choice to end their life. I admire that. I'm not sure I could be so selfless.

    By the way, I thought it was interesting, the paradox between 1) what you had written once about the fact that you didn't like hearing people's problems and 2) what you wrote about this friend of yours, and your concern about his well-being. I don't know, it seems like it showed a different side of yourself, it kind of showed this compassion you think you don't have. EDIT: I want the fireplace back.

    Hehe well the way I feel about my friends is different then the way I feel about other people in general, and still I feel as if I was rather useless, I really did not offer him any great and wonderful sage advice.

    Well the fireplace turned into an empty white square with an x in the corner, so I needed to find something else and there were not any other fire places I really liked
