there's a new KID in town

My husband and I took our nine year to get a goat, a dog, and some chickens. We will have to bring home the chickens tomorrow because they are free range. When they are kept penned up you just reach in and get one, but when they are free to roam you have to get them when they go to bed or before you let them out in the morning. We’ll be picking up five tomorrow after church and she is throwing in some young chicks for free!

We are now the proud owners of a female boar goat. A boar goat is not good for milk; they are a meat breed. I have a neighbor with milk goats and if we bread her with one of those goats the offspring will be good for both meat and milk. I’m sure it will be a long time before we have several, but I’m still looking for goats. I have a section of the yard I’d like to put a large goat pen. That may happen sooner rather than later- I don’t know. The goat is named Pumpkin and is very contrary! The human kids are delighted.

The little Great Pyrenees pup is so cute. She offered to let me take two, but I don’t think I can handle two. He loves the children and is familiar with goats, chickens, and cats. She said I shouldn’t have any trouble with him bothering the other animals. He’s white and handsome! He’s getting a bath as soon as I post this.

    OK, without seeing a picture of the pup I'll just throw out some names:
    Zeus, Cody, Hercules, Spartacus, Maximus (Max for short), Apollo, Nemo
    Maybe you shld have a poll like Sprinks is doing to name her rubber ducky?

    You should have a contest and let your children pick the winner. As for Pumpkin, I have a friend in Alabama who has lots of goats. I love hearing his stories. I'll bet it's pretty exciting around there. When is it NOT exciting around there?

    great names PnB! Amp, the kids want to call him snowy, dog, bobo, and punky so I like your idea. The husband likes Hessan who is a bugs bunny character who chops Daffy when they end up in the cave full of treasure. I don't like the names that the kids have chosen. He's small and cute and I don't think they realize how large he will be or even that he is a boy. The goat sounds will be something to get used to. I thought it said my name just a bit ago. It sounds almost like a child.

    I'll work on the pictures. I'll blog about my doggy day so you will all know why this little guy was only 25 bucks. He is so good and smart. I really like him!

    M-H: I found one book for dog training that I had. It's called:
    The Monks of New Skete - The Art of Raising a Puppy
    I've seen them on the Animal Planet and they were pretty amazing in training the dogs that come to them. They raise german shepards. You should be able to find this in the bookstore.

    Funny - we all had the same idea - I want pictures as well! Mother Hubbard's Animal Farm. You could write a children's book about all your creatures - enable them to talk to each other about the goings on - kinda like Charlotte's Web...........oh, and I like your kid's suggestion for "Bobo". That was our dog's name - he was the most beloved of all the dogs we've had, and everyone (including our neighbors - he would go visit them) was sad when he passed. By the way, on his papers his official name was "Le Beau", and that is now the name of my parents sailboat. LOL.

    Have you named the pup yet? Well, my name ideas might have been Oscar, Milton, Chiz, Rascal, or Dakota. But anyhow, I would also love to see pics of all these animals -- sounds like so much fun over there at your place!
