Last night my best friend’s daughter slept over. I had had her the night before, but I also had my nephew so this was a special night just for girls. We took the cover off of the tent so that it was just the netting and slept out there last night. The girls went right to sleep. They had played so hard and gotten too much sun. I couldn’t go to sleep. The night sky is so beautiful. Last night was so windy and the trees were twisting and blowing- I really expected a storm but it didn‘t come. Then I finally fell asleep around two this morning, but woke around 4:30 or so, but not really. I opened my eyes while my body still slept and I admired the deep color of the sky and the outlines of the less active trees and it felt like forever. Then I blinked and found the sky much changed with the trees standing out against the new bluer black shade. This time there were about a million birds of varying song all talking to each other. Then I blinked and found a dark blue sky with small wisps of cloud floating and black green trees and cows bawling. Then I blinked and the sky was an early morning blue and the rooster was crowing. It was so lovely. I just wanted to spend the day out there with my body asleep and my eyes waking and dozing and experiencing the different moments of nature like a peep show.

I was in the house by 5:30 and I considered starting my day and cooking breakfast, but then I thought better and went to my own bed to snuggle my husband for a few moments before he had to go to work. I’m almost caught up now, though. Just a couple more loads of laundry and then I may shampoo the carpet again. I’m hoping one of the kids will get into trouble so that I can give out some punishment chores today. There are a couple of things I need done, but I save them for just the right moment. I’m a mean mom!
