I just read a book that made me think of this~

When people think that a woman can’t or that I can’t do something I have to work harder to prove that I can.

I think that most women would think me a sexist and most men would think me a feminist. I guess I’m a bit of both. I think women should be able to do whatever they want, I just think they shouldn’t want to do a lot of things that they can. Anyway, this is a little story about a trip to the shooting range.

When my husband and I were dating we went with another couple to a shooting range. I’m a good shot. My husband was a firearms instructor with the police department, so I had good training.

(great book)

A friend of the other couple showed up to shoot his brand new Colt .45. Wayne was so proud of himself and his new pistol that his strutting and crowing was just about to drive me crazy. All of his big talk and he couldn’t even hit the target at 25 yards, but he was sure that the sights were just off. It couldn't be him so it must be the gun.

I got up last for my turn at a particular stage on the range and he asked with surprise if I was going to shoot. I said yes and he asked if I had a little .22. I responded that I was shooting a Rugger .357 magnum but that I would love to give that new.45 a try. He just laughed at me like I didn’t know my own limitations, but offered it over a little mockingly. My husband just smiled at me when I turned to face the target.

I emptied the gun and had a group that would fit in the palm of my hand then handed the gun back to Wayne and told him that I thought the sights were fine. No one else said a word. Wayne packed up and left. I found out later that he sold the gun on the way home.

My husband was proud of me. I had to shoot my best at that moment because he was such a jerk and I felt that he needed to know that women can do more that cook and clean.

Wayne never did like me.

Yeah, this is stupid, how some people assume things by basing their thoughts on gender... glad you could make that Wayne shut up.

Ha ha, good one, M-H! You could have had even a bit more fun, too, if you had encountered him at a later time and said: "Hey, if I had known you were selling the gun, I'd have considered it -- having tried it out and all ..." Hmmm, maybe not, but guys like him are the armpits of the anatomy of relationships. People who judge others based on anything -- gender, colour, sexual preference -- really are not usually capable of making a reasonable debate/argument. Narrow minded. Ignorant. Not worth sweating over. btw -- my dad taught me how to shoot when I was about eight. I nearly went deaf and nearly knocked my left shoulder out-of-whack ... long story, great fun! Well, take care!

Myself I was terrible on the firing range in the Air Force days. Barns were very safe in my vicinity. Liked the Superwoman picture (back in a couple DC Presents Annuals featuring Superman and Superwoman from the 80s.)

The couple of times I've been at a firing range, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Very pathetic. You must be a good shot. As anti-feminist as I am, I believe in strong women and giving the same opportnities as any man. Actually I'm anit radical feminst. I probably would support feminism all the way up to the 1970s. After that they went off the deep end. Sorry if someone doesn't like that. I've given several women opportuinities at work and they have done as good as any male engineer. So go female power, but don't forget to make me dinner. Actually if you were able to listen in at my home most nights, you would hear the tongue lashing my wife gives every night. Good entry Mom-H.

Actually, I’m not really a feminist. If you look back it says sexist, too. I do think that women are as capable as men, I just think that once a woman has a family her first focus should be on the home. I think the same is true for the man, but I think he is more obligated to provide a living for the family. As I’ve said before we all just have to do our best with our own situation.

Jeesh woman! Remind me never to get on your bad side. That's rather phenomenal shooting for anyone! Glad you had fun and showed him up.
I was a better shooter than my ex-bf, who was a ranger in the army. It kinda pissed him off as well - LOL!

Nice entry - love the pics. It's always fun to take someone by surprise isn't it? We can get so much accomplished when no one knows what we're up to *laughs evilly*
