I just read a book that made me think of this~
When people think that a woman can’t or that I can’t do something I have to work harder to prove that I can.
I think that most women would think me a sexist and most men would think me a feminist. I guess I’m a bit of both. I think women should be able to do whatever they want, I just think they shouldn’t want to do a lot of things that they can. Anyway, this is a little story about a trip to the shooting range.
When my husband and I were dating we went with another couple to a shooting range. I’m a good shot. My husband was a firearms instructor with the police department, so I had good training.
(great book)
A friend of the other couple showed up to shoot his brand new Colt .45. Wayne was so proud of himself and his new pistol that his strutting and crowing was just about to drive me crazy. All of his big talk and he couldn’t even hit the target at 25 yards, but he was sure that the sights were just off. It couldn't be him so it must be the gun.
I got up last for my turn at a particular stage on the range and he asked with surprise if I was going to shoot. I said yes and he asked if I had a little .22. I responded that I was shooting a Rugger .357 magnum but that I would love to give that new.45 a try. He just laughed at me like I didn’t know my own limitations, but offered it over a little mockingly. My husband just smiled at me when I turned to face the target.
I emptied the gun and had a group that would fit in the palm of my hand then handed the gun back to Wayne and told him that I thought the sights were fine. No one else said a word. Wayne packed up and left. I found out later that he sold the gun on the way home.
My husband was proud of me. I had to shoot my best at that moment because he was such a jerk and I felt that he needed to know that women can do more that cook and clean.
Wayne never did like me.
