Covid and Obsessive Behavior

Obsessive compulsive Disorder and Coronavirus

“Most people have occasional obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviors. In an obsessive-compulsive disorder, however, these symptoms generally last more than an hour each day and interfere with daily life.”

Until earlier this year, repeatedly washing one’s hands or applying disinfectant to one’s skin was regarded as a symptom of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, but more recently this has become the norm, and people who only wash their hands when it is appropriate are sometimes regarded as deviant. This change in the norm came as a result of misinformation about the SARS 2 virus is spread was carried in the news media. It has been shown that the virus is primarily spread person to person through the air in the form of aerosols, but the was no rescission of the earlier information, even though it is difficult for the virus to be spread on the surfaces of things, but there still are containers of hazardous chemicals readily available for people to smear on their hands.
The FDA has warned about ingredients of hand sanitizers:

But ethanol is considered safe, and it may be safe in many cases, but it can be absorbed through the skin, and can lead to intoxication.

Effectiveness
The news media don’t seem to have looked into effectiveness of so-called sanitizer in comparison to washing with soap and water, but the old-fashioned soap and water are more effective than the toxic chemicals, see links:

"Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can quickly reduce the number of microbes on hands in some situations, but sanitizers do not eliminate all types of germs.”
https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/show...difficile1%2D5.

There are important questions that are raised by this matter:

Are people being trained to regard Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as normal?

Are there financial connections between producers of so-called sanitizers and government and/or media people?

Another thing that I wonder is whether some people use alcoholic sanitizers as a way to become intoxicated without drinking. Alcohol can be absorbed through the skin, and it could be quite effective.

Before Coronavirus loomed large, I really wondered about people who used those toxic chemicals on their skin, but recently there have been so many people using that stuff, that there has to be a high from it. Why else would they do such damage to their bodies?
Apparently, hand sanitizers are being used for intoxication, and that's not news to me.

And intoxication would make people more likely to have strong feelings about substances. Could intoxication explain the obsession?

I think that washing with soap and water is better and healthier in all ways, except for alcoholics, and that it would be better for everyone, if so-called hand sanitizers were consigned to the trash.

I'm not sure Peter, if some of this dissertation is tongue in cheek?

What constitutes obsessive behaviour during a pandemic is an interesting point. Mind you hand washing, mask wearing, social distancing to me is basic self survival.

Absorption of alcohol through the skin? I've just had a large Negroni cocktail after sanitizing my hands. No wonder I feel so great!!!!
