Peace be on you.
In the last part of nineteenth century, Ahmadiyya Promised Messiah Mahdi (on whom be peace) announced by getting revelation from Allah the Exalted that he is the promised one who was to come for spiritual reforms of the world but without any use of force. The inter connected heavenly and earthly changes were already present or were unfolding which were foretold as specific signs of coming the said reformer. For example, Holy Prophet of Islam (p.b.u.h.) had foretold that the sign of sun and moon eclipse, on the specific dates, in one month of Ramadhan for ‘our Mahdi’ i.e. the true Mahdi would be shown. It took place exactly as prophesied. It was seen twice in 1894 in southern hemisphere in India and 1895 in northern hemisphere in America.

People started to accept his call for peaceful spiritual and moral reforms but there were people from various religions who joined hands for opposition. Second Ahmadiyya Khalifah mentioned some of these events that how the Hand of God saved the one whom He sent to establish faith with peace. The following is being presented in its light :

(A) - The previous life of a Prophet is like a open book for the people where he descends. Holy Quran teaches argument to Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) to say: “...Thus I have indeed lived among you a (whole) lifetime before this. Will you not then understand?” (ch 10 : v 17)

a) Prior to claim, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad [Promised Messiah Mahdi (a.s.)] was a common scholar person who always defended true principles of Islam in the face of wide spread internal weakness of Muslims (in 1880’s era) and full attack by other religions on Islamic faith. Hazrat sahib wrote a book to defend Islam ‘Brahen e Ahmadiyya’. A Muslim clergy named, Maulwi Muhammad Hussain Batalwi of nearby town Batala wrote words of praise for him, he said that the writer of the book is serving Islam with wealth, life, pen, character and words with such steadfastenss which is rarely seen. [This clergy became greatest opponent when Hazrat sahib claimed of being Promised Messiah and Mahdi later].

b) The father of Mr. Zafar Ali Khan, a leader, also stated about the pious life of Hazrat sabih in his newspaper.

c) According to psychologists, moral weakness in human develops slowly over the time. Thus it is not possible that a person who lived a pious life for forty years, all of sudden stood and falsely claimed that he has received revelation from God that he is the promised grand reformer of latter days, and various signs, beyong human capacity, do accompany him. There was no one who could point any impurity in the character of Promised Messiah Mahdi in the life before his claims.

(B) Holy Quran mentions that Allah says: “‘Most surely We help Our Messengers……” (ch40:v52)
a) When Promised Messiah Mahdi’s message of peaceful Islam began to get acceptance, various religious groups joined hands against him. It was the time when British were ruling India. Plots to kill him were devised. Among them was a false murder case, filed by a Dr. Martin Clark, a pastor. A Muslim witness Abdul Hamid was invented and well taught what to say in court. The magistrate judge was Captain M.W. Douglas (latter Sir), Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur. Before this case, he had already said that why such claimant of Promised Messiah and Mahdi is still free. I shall catch him. Promised Messiah (a.s.) was revealed that a clergy will be belittled.

i--When Promised Messiah (a.s.) came in court, magistrate’s heart was changed and he offered him a chair near him.

ii-When clergy Maulwi Batalwi came as witness to give sham testimony, he was imagining that he would see Promised Messiah (a.s.) disrespected but he was shocked to see him at chair. He asked that he too should be given a chair. When refused he started debate with magistrate. Magistrate said Mirza sahib was given chair because he belongs to Lord family who gets chair. Who are you? Then Mr. Batalwi was asked to stand behind. The peon took him at the end near show shoes. Mr. Batalvi went outside and sat on a chair in veranda, the peon vacted it too. Batalwi went to mob who came to know about the case and sat on sheet of cloth. The owner came and angrily asked him to leave.

iii-After the hearing, judge was very nervous and walking right and left on street, he wanted to go to other town. His junior asked him was he ok? He said I see Mirza sahib (Promised Messiah) saying he is innocent. I see angel pointing to him saying he is innocent. I am about become crazy. The junior said, police inspector is present please talk to him. Police inspector advised the magistrate that the key witness is living with pastors, hand him over to police and then make interrogation. Magistrate liked it and immediately ordered so. When the key witness found safety, he told the truth that he was asked to give fake testimony.

iv-On the next hearing, Promised Messiah (a.s.) was acquitted. Judge told him that he can file case against the people who accused him wrongly for insulting him. Promised Messiah (a.s.) said he do not want to do so. Judge always remembered this high morals. During the hearing, when lawyer of Promised Messiah (a.s.) wanted to ask a question which would have humiliated Mr. Batalwi in court, Promised Messiah (a.s.) did not allow it. The lawyer was not Ahmadiyya Muslim and he always mentioned such high morals in his friends.

v-In the time of current Khalifah V of Promised Messiah (a.s.) , a maternal grandson of Sir Douglas has requested that he wants to do Bai'at to join Ahmadiyya Jama'at. He said he thinks, his elder did some virtue that is why he came for Bai'at.

vi- And the grandson of Dr. Martin Clark has openly said that his elder was wrong and Promised Messiah (a.s.) was right.

(C )- A person named Mr. Umer Din sahib, was in a meeting with some clergies, who were discussing they should advertise a challenge to Promised Messiah (a.s.). If he deny [as he had already said there will be no more debating, enough were done], they would say he did not come. If he debates, they would say he broke his promise. The person Umer said it would be better if he go and just kill the claimant. The clergies said, they already tried every thing but failed. Then the person pondered that if God is protecting some one on that scale, he must be true. He went and did Bai'at.

This safety was divine provision in accordance with divine promise : “Most surely We help Our Messengers……” (Holy Quran ch40:v52)
