What's Surprising About Salad

Last month I was watching Gunslinger Girl. Now I'm watching Saikano. I seem to have strange tastes. On the subject of taste; I don't like vegetables. They're pretty boring. They rot quickly. You have to wash and peel them. Since I'm feeling sick I don't want to eat much but I figured something light would be good.
We had a salad in the fridge. I didn't make it. It's premade. I kind of object to premade salad. It's surely more expensive than doing it yourself but mostly I object to the packaging. Although useful plastic is a lot of bother. I loved the idea though. It's a lovely idea for people like office workers who want something healthy at lunch. It's a little side salad in a box.
I wouldn't normally buy salad but I've been concerned about the occasional sticky feeling in my chest and I figured a good meal here or there would be helpful. I planned to make katsudon. I got pork loins that I was going to fry in breadcrumbs. I've done it with chicken and it was really good but then again chicken's quicker and easier to cook. I thought it would be good to serve with the salad.
The salad has lettuce, shredded carrot, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and a little red onion. Out of vegetables I actually like these are all high on the list. Out of these vegetables I tend to eat carrots the most but I don't like them so much in salad. I hate the way salads are layered. The big lettuce on top and always shredded carrots on the bottom.
Although I like carrots they're actually quite dry. Salad makes me thirsty. The red onion is okay but it's zingy and sticks in my throat. The flesh of cucumber is good but the skin is a little bitter. I've always liked the seeds in tomatoes. I used to suck out the seeds but then I was left with the soggy tomato flesh that wasn't as sweet or juicy as the seeds. These days I try to eat the whole thing but it can be hard to stab with the fork and when you do the juice spills or sprays out and if you scoop it up and eat it whole is bursts when you bite it. I've never liked that feeling. I'm in two halves in regard to lettuce. I don't like the leafy green tips because they're rough, thin and tasteless. I love the whiter, crunchier part nearer to the centre. It's somehow sweeter, makes a lovely sound and has the most water.
I do wonder if these preferences make me strange or if they're too childish. I've now eaten the whole side salad. It's a serious achievement for me. Eating salad at all I mean. Only trouble is it's not very filling. It's a known fact that when you're hungry the body will crave heavier foods rich in carbohydrates. Now I want to eat meat like that pork but it's too late and I think it's be too heavy for me at the moment. Must be hell to be a vegetarian I imagine. Even worse for vegans. I really don't get vegans. Vegetarians at least I get. Can imitation dairy and meat based products really be better than the real thing? It's also believed that eating meat is what allowed our predecessors to evolve the brains we now have. How would the human race look now if they'd all been vegan I wonder.
Ah. Please don't think I'm trying to criticise other people's lifestyle choices. If you don't want to or can't eat certain foods is no business of mine and I wouldn't judge anyone for it.........unless they were a cannibal perhaps.
I'd better leave it here or I'll ramble too much.
