My Unexpected Roomate

Rate this Entry
Last night I am getting ready to go to bed when I notice that there is a black widow hanging out on the windowsill (and my bed is right up against the window) so went to find a container in which I could try and catch it with and take it out when by the time I got back it was already disappearing into a little crevice between the wall and the window pane where I could not reach it.

Stood there a moment not really sure what to do about that, so I tried turning out the lights and leaving hoping it might reappear again, but it never did.

For a moment I had contemplated just going to bed, under the presumption that it did not seem that likely that it would suddenly decide to start crawling all over my bed while I was sleeping, and probably would stay where it was. As well there was a good chance that it may have been there for some time as it was without me even being aware of it, because once it was in its hideyhole it was near impossible to see. But as I was mulling this over, another spider comes crawling along my window ledge, and while that one seemed to be of a harmless nature, it was a bit too much spider traffic in my room for one night, so I resigned myself to sleeping on the couch.

Than in the morning I get up and decide to see what I can do about removing the spider, because I could not just let it stay there indefinitely, and low and behold I discover it is no longer there. So there is potentially a rouge black window in some undisclosed location in my room. I tried looking in all the likely places where it might be, but cannot find it. For now I am just going to operate on the assumption that it went back outside, and before going to bed at night make sure there are no black widow's anywhere near, on, or around me bed.

Also I found out that this is a really noisy house. In my room I do not notice it so much, and at night when I am in here with the TV and stuff on I don't notice that much, but trying to sleep, without everything off, it was all sorts of weird strange sounds going on. I had no idea what was going on, and though I have no doubt they were just normal, natural sounds, because I was not used to them, it was hard getting to sleep because all the noises made me really tense, (I tend to have acute fight or flight instincts) so every time I would hear another noise my eyes would pop open again. And it would sound like there were people walking around in the house, or that there was some animal loose, and I don't have any free roaming animals inside the house.

I cordially dislike spiders, and I would have killed her with impunity.

Once I had a bed that had a sort of bookcase for a headboard and I put a plant on it. When I moved out, I picked it up to take it, and was startled to see this huge spider hiding among the leaves Needless to say, I have never put a plant in my bedroom again.

I adore spiders and Black Widows hold a special place in my heart. They are fascinating and wonderful creatures. And as a general rule I employ a no kill policy regarding all creatures. I only use catch, and release.

DM, I'm usually a live and let live person, but not when it's nesting near my head!

Snakes terrify me--have no problem with spiders. I leave them alone they leave me alone. I truly believe this is from reading Amazing Spider-Man comics back in the day. And no that's NOT supposed to make sense.
