Nightly Mishap

I was watching one of those cooking competition shows which have become so popular these days when one of the women on the show I noticed had her fingernails painted, and her thumbs were done in red and the rest of the fingers done in black and this gave me an idea. I decided to paint my nails in alternating black and red, I thought it give it an Alice in Wonderland vibe to it.

I believe I have mentioned once before that one of the things of which I do not like about painting my nails is I haven't the patience to wait for them to dry, so now I paint them right before going to bed to dry while I am sleeping.

I go into the bathroom, and it is late, I am tired, I don't feel like turning on the main lights in the bathroom because they would be too bright, there is a nightlight on, and I open the medicine cabinet where I keep my nail polish, and of course I have a preference for dark colors, and I grab what I thought was the black.

I go to my room, and turn on the bedside lamp, which also is dimly lit, and I paint my nails, go to bed and wake up to discover lo and behold, it was of course not black but a dark purple, and I was agitated because it was not what I wanted, and plus the red contrasted against the purple color made it look too pink which I cannot stand, so the whole thing looked stupid. So I had to remove the purple and redo it with my black.

Also coincidently I happen to be reading a book called The Red and the Black right now.

    Haha, you know you might be onto something, I am going to have to give that some thought.

    I did once attempt to do something like that. I read this book called The Night Circus, about this circus, whose color theme was black, white and gray, and there was this group who were dedicated followers of the circus that dressed in the circus colors, but always wore one item of red to distinguish themselves.

    I read the book around Halloween, so I in the whole week leading up to Halloween I wanted to dress like that, but the weather had been too hot to wear mostly black all the time.

    That actually sounds like fun. I don't know how easy it would be to pull off frequently, though I imagine one might have fun trying.

    You paint your nails before going to bed? How do you manage that? If I go to bed too soon after painting my nails they have the imprint of the pillow material by morning. Maybe I just use a bad nail varnish. But it always happens.

    A few weeks ago I painted my nails alternating blue and green and put a black crackle coat on top. It looked pretty cool although matching colours can be tricky.

    Hehe I do not quite know, maybe I am just lucky, the first time I did it I was half afraid I would wake up to find nail polish all over my sheets but somehow or other it just works for me.
