Is this just weird of me

I happened to be on IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) looking something up, and on their homepage they have this thing where they advertise different movies that are going to be coming out and a lot of the time it is stuff that I haven't heard of before, because they are movies that are still too new to have had previews or sometimes they are more independent, out the way films, and such, so sometimes I like to pop on to IMDb just to see what new movies are being advertised.

But anyway, so I was looking something up and I happened to notice that there is going to be a movie made based upon the book On the Road by Jack Kerouac. Now I read the book sometime back, and while I enjoyed it for the most part, and there were elements of it that were interesting, it was not one of my favorite things that I have read, and all in all I felt it was average. I gave it a 3 out of 5 star rating.

Yet for some reason I got more excited about the prospects of the fact that it is being made into a movie than I did about the book itself, and I cannot completely account for why that may be so. Perhaps in part it has to do with familiarity, and just the fact that I recognized it, could identify with it, read the book, (even if I do not consider it one of the greatest books I have read) the recognition factor added to the burst of excitement about the movie. And it is true that I do think it could have the makings of an interesting movie, I am certainly curious to see what the movie will do with it.

But I cannot help but feel that it kind of strange that my anticipation in wanting to see the movie outweighs the originally feelings I had for reading the book.

I dunno, but I have experienced that before. Maybe because in the right hands this book is just begging to be made visual?

And maybe it is because there are elements of the story and aspects of it that are the sort of thing that would be right up my ally and intrigue me, but it was just the way in which it was written, the prose of it that failed the fully engage in me. I like the whole world/attitude, that the book is about.

I was a little confused about the quality of the prose at first, I mean considering its fame, but as I continued I realised it's about rhythm - it has rhythms that ebb and flow as you 'listen' while reading it. Not many other books I can think of that do that, in fact this is the only one off hand
