  1. Well, we'll see how it goes. Something tells me it'll probably kill me.
  2. To be perfectly honest Vlad, I don't care for the King James version. I know that sounds like heresy but the language is artificial. I prefer a modern translation.
  3. Sounds like a good idea. I'll keep you posted about how far I am. I'm sure it will take me a long time even if I break it into portions. I got through the introduction in my version (Oxford King James edition) and was reading the translator's note to the reader (I'm assuming the original 1611 translators), which was pretty tough to get through. Maybe later in the week I can get some reading done.
  4. To be honest I've never read it all the way through. There's merit in reading it straight, but it can get boring. After Exodus the next four books deal with ancient Jewish rituals. You might want to skim through that. I have found that Wikipedia gives very good orientation to each book in the Bible. You might want to look at the wiki entries after reading or while reading.
  5. Well, I'm not very religious, but I would definitely not rant. After all, why would I read a book in the first place if I just figured I'd get pissed off reading it. I'm a little intimidated about reading it, though. I don't have that much experience with classic literature, and it's a pretty tough thing to jump into. Any advice for reading it? I was thinking about maybe doing the first five books first, and then taking a break. Do you think there's anything to gain, say, by reading through all of the Old Testament in one stretch?
  6. Great. I might be interested in discussing something if it's done respectfully. Not sure if you're an atheist but the atheists here just rant.
  7. Haha, yeah, I noticed that after I did it...but it was too late! Oh well, you live and learn. Anyways, I'm about to start reading the Bible! As you can see, I'm trying to knock out some classic literature.
  8. Oh Vlad, you responded in your own proifile page. The way these pages work is that I post a note on your page, and you get a notice that you have a message, and you respond to mine page,m and i'll get a notice. Otherwise I wouldn't know to come back here. It was just by chance i stopped by. Also if you click the "View Conversation" link on the lower right of the message box, you can see the entire back and forth and it's simpler to respond from there. Hope that helps.
  9. I've enjoyed our discussion on Homer.
