I'd love to hear some of your stuff; by all means, send the you tube links when you have them! Good luck in the show!
Well, the idea behind slam poetry (or however other people choose to refer to it) is not necessarily to be as structured as published poetry but to convey meaning through emotion and rhythm. Anis Mojgani's themes are hardly original, but the emotion and fervor he used to convey these ideas make his analogies seem tangible and accessible, if not modern. The closest I'll ever get to broadcasting some of my poetry is our school's talent show in September. I feel I have some remarkable material that'll blow away the crowd a) because of it's creativity and insight and b) because we all consider these issues anyways. There's no point of rattling off limericks in iambic pentameter if I'm talking about the loss of innocence in American children as a result of society. If I ever present, I'll send you Youtube links. =]
I had never heard of slam poetry...now remember, I am really old, so I looked up this fellow named Anis (thinking why would someone have a stage name of Anus) and He said, "This is for the fat girls...and I waited, then he said, "this is for the people who have to work three jobs...and I waited...then I realized, the message was that everyone was the same and to let it all go; shake the dust off and get on with life... I'm still hoping to play God of War sometime, Jess wants to get Ju-on haunted house simulator; but we willhave to get the WII system first. Right now, just have the Xbox and Ps2. I've been watching more movies and reading lately, nothing profound. I'm about to catch Avatar on Dvd and see if it is all that people say it is... I'll look for your poetry. Take it easy, Gail
Um, it's been off and on. I've been trying to re-spark my interest in Fallout 3 on my PS3. I got God of War 1 and 2 on a blu-ray disk for around $30 and I've been playing an all-time favorite, Star Wars Battlefront 2 recently, but my agenda has largely been constituted by reading and writing slam poetry. Anis Mojgani is incredible and I've been writing poetry ever since watching him slam down.
Hey Ice, what's up...doing any video games lately?
