  1. Thanks Loki!

I've read about Vikings and Norse myth when I was little.
  2. Hey-ho Princess!

Well, when I say I can speak Icelandic, I suppose I'm being slightly dishonest. What I speak is Old Norse, which is about 85% the same as modern Icelandic. For an Icelander, it would be like I was wittering in funny accent. Indeed, it was the language of the vikings, and was originally runic. I must confess though that I'm a bit lost when it comes to runes - I will learn them eventually, but they're not actually that useful. There are no viking books, as it where; runes just tend to be found on the odd runestone here and there. The roman alphabet (and, for that matter, literacy in general) came with the conversion to Christianity (c. 999 AD), and all our Norse mythology was transcribed after that; this makes things much easier for modern readers!
  3. Hello Loki!

I stumbled upon a post of yours in a languages thread, and I was wondering, is Icelandic the language used by Vikings? The alphabet they used, they were called 'runes', right? I've memorized them before, but now I forgot.
Do they spell out words like they do in English?
  4. Sounds good - I can't wait myself, but I've got another couple of months till summer yet!
  5. LOL! Just passed that phase actually. I'm finally on summer break.
  6. Coping is, I think, the technical term. I'm up to my ears in essays/applications/Shakespeare (not a bad thing, mind!). And how are you doing?
  7. Hello! How are you?
  8. Top o' the mornin' to ya too! I'm not doing badly at all (just moved home for Easter) - yourself?
  9. Top of the morning there old chap! (*giggles* did i say that right?) How are you today?
  10. LOL! When you become a professor, there'll be more where that came from! Prepare for endless 'torture'!
