I don't know - the British military is most definitely in decline. We are facing major cuts, and we have to share our aircraft carriers with France now... We still have a powerful military, but nothing compared to what it once was. I suspect that within a decade our army will be about the usual size for a country as small as ours....
Oh, how I hate the melodramatic doomsday scenarios. . . . China will have an aircraft carrier. So? How many do we have? I don't care what the stock markets say, the US is still the military power in the world. Any nation that declares war against us is just asking to be destroyed. I think that's pretty much how we Brits felt in the 1800s... And has Britain been reduced to a third world nation? By most accounts, the UK still ranks among the 5 biggest superpowers in the world in military terms, and certainly among the top ten in economic terms. I agree with Mutatis. There is too much doomsday hysteria going around spread by the ignorant of misinformed and it is this hysteria, if anything, that has manipulated by far right wing lunatics like the Tea Baggers.
