  1. Congratulations, I'm sure you'll enjoy.
I just might consider getting that myself.
  2. Top stuff. I ordered this last night, Helen Forrest The Voice of the Big Bands:

  3. Thank you. I will have sweet dreams.
In return, I stumbled on this one when looking for entries on the old music thread.

  4. Well that's embarrassing, must have been from the linerging affects of the Guiness/ Leffe combination along with Scher's message, the "A" in April and the number 22.

I'll trust you had a good one back in April.

I'm down to my last bottle btw. After that I'm not sure.
  5. Excellent stuff, it sounds like a good session, glad you liked the Leffe. I've not had a Guinness for a while. I can see how it might not be a good mix, ha ha. That's the thing with Guinness I find though it doesn't seem to sit well with anything else, never mind.

Thanks for the birthday wish though it's not my birthday! Bottoms up though!
  6. Happy Birthday mate

After seeing your recent Leffe lauds, I picked up a six pack. Pretty good stuff.
However, I made a big mistake yesterday by knocking down two Guinness Stouts followed by the Leffe. The Stouts were shared at a pub with a few coworkers, celebrating the completion of a project deadlne.
Once I got home, I followed up with a lEffe nightcap - not a good mix.
I was feeling it this morning.
Anyhow, my head is cleared and I raise anotrher to you.

  7. Oh that's great then, a good collection. Those are the best of his plays, the best of the rest. There's only a few of his early pieces absent but they are nothing much to note at all being much weaker than those.

I see with the nook that's good then. Can you use Project Gutenberg as well? I some things from there to my kindle all free of course.

Wilde can be quite infectious so yes it could well spill over but that's a good thing.

Hope you enjoy the plays, let me know what you think.

    Regards, Neely.
  8. Neely,

Thanks for the recommendations. I downloaded The Importance of Being Earnest. The purchase includes additional plays; Lady Windermere's Fan, A Woman of No Importance, An Ideal Husband and Salome.

Barnes & Noble (Nook) does offer free, or nearly free (0.99c), books, but in this case the cost is due to the fact the my edition is from the Barnes & Noble "classic" series and it included multiple works.

The plays appealed to me since I'm still basking in the residual glory left over from the Blokes Christmas Play. Ha!
Perhaps I can draw from Wilde this next Christmas.

  9. Hi there good stuff!

Depending on what you fancy I would recommend reading his best play (his best work) "The Importance of Being Earnest". It is dazzlingly funny, it is the champagne of Wilde's work. If you fancy a novel then there is literary only one in Dorian Gray! You must also read The Happy Prince and Other Tales for some beautiful fairy tale shorts too. These three are the strength of Wilde's written work together with The Ballad of Reading Gaol, which I would read last of all. His own favourite of his own work was his short biblical play Salome.

In terms of biography then Richard Ellmann's work Wilde is really the only one of importance.

You should be able to pick his Wilde's stuff for free I would have thought, I don't know how the Nook works I have a kindle.

Let me know how you get on.

    All the best,

    Neely.
