I hope you don't mind but I brought an old Chekhov thread back up that you started. I went to see a good amateur Chekhov, Three Sisters, last night and thought that I must dust off his works. Did you read thoses collected works of his; I believe I have that short story selection as well? Currently reading Ivanov. I'm sure I've read it before but I can't remember anything about it.
