  1. For 2 years unfortunately Even if i want go back to my previous polish school, i can't as the principal told that i would have to repeat one year, or pass exams in all 16(!) subjects to prove that I cover all the material that my peers had in this year. And I would have to pass this exams in summer, so i would have 2 months to learn all this stuff...
  2. oh yeah, I totally forgot about the paper lanterns thanks for reminding me
by the way, are you taking your A-levels in England or are you only there for a year?
  3. St. Martin? Is it the day when children go with paper lanterns? My friend who lives in Leipzig told me once about it. But actually in one region of Poland people celebrate St. Martin day- I really don't know why only there, maybe because it's western part of Poland, therefore is influenced by German culture...
  4. sounds pretty much like what we do in Germany. we open the presents on the 24th, too. but we don't have a 12 course meal on Christmas Eve we have a simple meal, e.g. sausages and potato salad, or carp. On Christmas Day we have goose.
Hehe, we have St. Nicolas, too. Plus, we've also got St. Martin on 11 November for Protestants.
  5. At Luton I hate this airport In Poland we open presents on 24th- Christmas Eve. What we do? Family meetings, watching TV, eating traditional 12-course meal...(although I personally eat only 3 or 4 things, 'coz I don't like polish food). Most people go to the church(as in Poland around 90% people are Catholics). We have Father Christmas, and additionally earlier, on 6th December we celebrate Saint Nicholas Day- children receive small gifts which are left in their shoes by Saint Nicholas(saint who later became model for Santa Claus). All Europeans in my school were very disappointed that the British don't celebrate this day
  6. 14 hours was that at Stansted? I got delayed by an hour at Manchester airport. It wasn't too bad. But getting back home (to Birkenhead) will be a mess. We'll have to stay at Manchester overnight because we'll miss the last train. what do people do for Xmas in Poland? What day do you open the presents? Do you have Father Christmas or a different figure?
  7. Hey I'm currently at home for Christmas. I managed to get there, although my flight was delayed and I got stuck at the airport for 14h! But honestly I couldn't imagine myself spending whole holiday break in the UK. Merry Christmas!
  8. hiya, thanks for visiting my profile. how's it going with you? are you in England right now or back home for Christmas?
