Hmm, I will have to watch it then. That 1995 one when Hugh Grant and his puppy eyes made their big break was reasonable, in view of its size, but the men were a bit of a disappointment. Edward Ferrars was too lame (you'd swear he didn't really care about anything that happened to him), I have forgotten about Willoughby and Colonel Brandon was too much languishing and pining in his voice to really see in him a kind of Mr Knightley... Mr Hammilton was fun, bit I think too old (they were supposed to have nasty screaming kids still, in the film he is about 50-60...) and Mr Palmer was just in a perpetual bad mood. The women were good though, but that's only half of it. I guess it's eagerly waiting for the bankholiday on Monday for you then. I have had it today, and I had t work...
Oh it's much better than the Hugh Grant one. It is in three/four parts and definitely worth watching, the first episode in particular is good I thought. Ha, yes I'm afraid two late nights on the trot have not been good for my energy levels, have to have an earlier night tonight and no beer perhaps, but don't tell anyone that as it would ruin my reputation!
Haha, no I haven't seen that one. I've only seen the 1995 one with Kate Winslet. I'll have to have a look on YouTube then (there is always one mad fan who wants to avoid copyright). Glad to know that it's good. That will make a change of some of the stuff the BBC have made... I hope you were not too tired at work yesterday...
Oh my lord. Just watched the first episode of the BBC Sense and Sensibility, wow. Yes I've seen it before and I enjoyed it then, but I didn't realise just how much I enjoyed it. I had a dream about that cottage on the cliff in Devon. I can't wait for the second episode tomorrow. I'm tempted to put the second one on but it is already 12 and I have work in the morning. Damn. How do you rate it? I'm guessing you have seen it?
OK, thanks for that. I must explain. I enjoy the lager especially when I am very thirsty after tennis. Bitburger and Warsteiner hit the spot very well under these conditions. They are very similar I must say though, which probably comes down to the purity law in part and brewing similarities. The Budvar is a good alternative indeed and I think the move to Czech lager is a good reminder too. I don't like the Fosters or Stella that much, though Stella is more drinkable than Foster's, I prefer the Bitburger/Warsteiner. Of course, the lagers job for me is about quenching the thirst, the real real taste comes with those Belgian beers naturally, or other good real ales, British/American etc, etc. Currently just sipping a Leffe. Thanks for your advice. We had a great trip. All the best.
Hello! You find me well. My husband pulled a face just then... Asking about - what? - German lager? You must be well gone! He and I wouldn't know, as we try to avoid that stuff. Beck's is a famous one, but it's really no good. Try some Weizenbier (wheat beer) and maybe Malz (dark beer, a bit like Chimay, but not so nice). The problem with German beer is that it is subject to the Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law) that only allows certain ingredients to be in beer. So, essentially, there is very small variation and everything really tastes the same although there is another label on it. Kölsch is another quite popular one in Nordrhein Westfalen, but I don't think it's available outside Germany. If you have any possibility try the Czech one: Budvar or any Czech lager. They've got a nice taste even Stella can't really beat. And Okocim. That has got a nice beery taste. They are both a bit similar to Australian Foster's which you may have tasted. Have a nice time. gr k
Hello, hope you are well. Have you got any good German lager recommendations for me? I am on a bit of a Bitburger and Warsteiner thing at the moment so any recommendations you might have along those lines would be good. (Of course this does not mean that I have abandoned Belgian ale, by any degree, just that I am into these at the mo, thanks.) I am away for five days, so please forgive any immediate non-reply. Thanks, Neely.
Oh, thanks It seems the server date and our dates are a bit mixed up due to time zone or something. I got more birthday wishes here than in real life . Great Thanks again.
Happy belated birthday. I must apologise, I saw the thread on your birthday but didn't think it was you (because the date after your screen name confused my small mind...) All the best anyway. How are you keeping? Regards, Neely.
Request accepted. Thanks for it (Now let's get cracking with Paul McCartney )
