As they explain in the "About" pages, it's actually part of the UN Food Prgram and is sponsored by a Harvard charity. As you say, it works well.
Delighted to know it's real! But still rather confused about how it works... As in why isn't whoever is providing this money doing it no matter how many people go to their site, etc. Oh well, I do think it's great!

Hi there~ I went to the link for helping poverty in your signature, and I was thoroughly enjoying the idea of helping people while indulging my love of words. However, if you don't mind my asking, do you have any proof that this is a valid site, actually donating to the hungry through a word game? I love the the game, even if the idea is rather foreign to me. But I'd appreciate knowing I'm not just widening my vocabulary! Great idea, despite my questions, though!
