Gosh my to-read list gets longer everyday! To be honest I don't really have a favourite genre, I just read whatever Lately I've been reading the Deverry series by Katharine Kerr and books picked randomly from the 1001 books list. Some good ones I have read lately: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne Bronte - This was really good, but I still get so frustrated reading books from times when people couldn't just get a divorce. I also got frustrated by how good Helen is Surely nobody is that charitable in real life!? Last of the Mohicans, James Fenmore Cooper - This was a brilliant read! A lot of people hate it, and I thought I would too after I had read the first couple of pages. If you have seen the movie, disregard it because the book is completely different. This one can fulfill your historical fiction Rebecca, Daphne Du Maurier - Suspenseful but yet again I was frustrated with the main character as she can be very weak at times.
Oh, gee, let me think! David Brin has lots of interesting things -- The Postman is also a Hollywood movie, I think, though I haven't seen it. It's a post-nuclear holocaust book; kinda dark and twisted, but good, at the same time, lol. Hmm, I will have to think of more good titles for you, if you are interested in that genre. What is your favorite genre, though? Perhaps we could swap titles -- I know I usually have a hard time with historical fiction unless someone's already recommended the book to me; then I'll give it a shot. =)
You've just sold me Harmony, here I come! I don't really read a lot of sci-fi, I can't even think of any good ones that I have read apart from what I've already mentioned So I guess my favourite is Orson Scott Card It looks like you could be educating me on sci-fi. Actually I did read Day of the Triffids for school, but it was an effort. What other good books have you read?
Yes, I have read it! Harmony is only sort of like that, though. People don't even realize it's happening, and for the most part, people seem to live life 'normally.' The city of Basillica, where the first book starts, is run by women, and pretty peaceful, but there is all the normal gossip and manipulation -- aka, drama. The Oversoul is just there to prevent all-out war, hopefully. =) What sci-fic author do you like to read the most? I'm always looking for good new books, lol! That's my favorite genre, but realistic fiction is a close second.
That does sound like an interesting story. The great thing about (good) science fiction is it's not so far out there that it is impossible. I think books like Ender's Game and, from the sounds of it, Harmony are good warnings to us about where and how we could go wrong as a race in the future. Too much technology and not enough brains to work out the repercussions. Either that or evil people set on domination Actually Harmony sounds a teensy bit like 1984, now that was a scary book! Have you read it?
I did like Ender's Game, and I read Xenocide and something else by Scott Card, but I can't remember if I got through all of that series. The mock war game sounded like so much fun! Can you imagine; zero-gravity laser tag? That would be cool, and Ender was such a strategist! The other Scott Card books I really liked was a series called "Harmony," I think. It was about people who lived on the planet Harmony; they escaped Earth after humans wrecked it, and started over on this other planet. They have their political and religious views about things, and since they don't want their children to do the same thing to Harmony, they create a robot that will control your thoughts, to a certain extent. If you're thinking about something that could be perverted for warfare, like how to make a gun, instead of using bows and arrows for hunting, the "Oversoul" will make you forget your idea -- maybe you'll think about getting a snack from the kitchen, instead; that kind of thing. It's an interesting concept; I'm not sure whether or not I'd like to have it around here, though. =/
Hey, thanks for the picture comment They are very happy little dogs. I saw in your about me that you like Ender's Game! Me too! I HAD to read it for school, but ended up loving it. Have you read the whole series? I haven't got around to that yet, I must write that down somewhere or I will forget again.
