  1. Part 2 here:

But my personal favorite was this one:

which is by Goya; it's called "Judith and Holofernes" and it is very small. It is part of his Black series. She has just cut off the king's head. She looks very intent for such a bloody act. I just love the composition and the colors. Artists are amazing.
  2. Hi Gilliate,

I'm late getting back to you, but here is a little information on the Private Collections of Texas exhibit at the Kimball:

    http://www.kimbellart.org/privatecollections/

This is a vary good overview of the show. They had a Van Gogh, "Street in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mar" which was beautiful, of course. He had a way of packing a lot into a small space. I guess that's why they call him a genius.

One of my favorites was "The Tea Service" by Monet. I love the Impressionists, anyway, and Monet in particular. It is a particularly lovely painting. They wrote that he did very few still lifes, but if he had done more he would probably be considered on among the greatest French still life painters of all time.

Another gorgeous piece was Renoir's "Woman Combing Her Hair." I also particularly liked "St. Joseph with the Christ Child" by Guido Reni.
  3. By the way, I have a bad habit of blabbing on about myself.
Tell me more about the exhibit; any pieces that you favored? Interesting anaecdotes? According to the flyer, some of the pieces are "...unknown to the public and little known even to the specialists."

  4. qimissung,
Nice to hear from you again. Thanks for visiting.
I am glad to hear that you were able to see the "Private Collections..." exhibit. Unfortunately, I was not able to get back to the Kimball in time to see it. Coincidentally, I still have the brochure for the exhibit, along with a few others I picked up during my last adventure to the Kimball.
Snow. Isn't it amazing how much snow we have had this winter! We had approximately 1.5" from this moste recent snowfall.
The background photo is one I selected from my personal photos. It was taken with B&W film camera (Pentax ME Super 35mm SLR- circa 1980)
Please take a look at my artwork and photos album. You will find more descriptions there.
I tend to swap out backgrounds every few weeks or so.

  5. Like the new page. What prompted the change? And what is the picture?
  6. Hey Gilliatt, we went to see that exhibit at the Kimball on Saturday. I loved it! We caught it on the last day it was here, and on the first day of spring.

On the way home I heard on the radio a lady saying she had seen snow falling. I dismissed that completely. About 10 p.m. I poked my head outside to look for a cat, and lo and behold! Snow!
  7. I believe they enjoyed it. Afterwords we headed over to the Museum of Science and Natural History where the kids were certainly more enthused. We also watched the IMAX film titled "The Alps" at the Omni theater. Absolutely stunning! It brought me back to the time I travelled in Switzerland.

You need to get to the Kimbell.
  8. Did they seem to enjoy the exhibit at all? I enjoyed taking my kids when they were younger. They always had a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

Last May my two oldest sons, both grown now, went to see the King Tut exhibit at the DMA. We enjoyed it tremendously. There was a brief article in the Dallas Morning News today about Tut. He had, it seems, a cleft palate, a club foot and he died from both malaria and a broken leg. His parents were brother and sister.

Anyway, I would like to go see that exhibit. Hopefully I'll make time for it.
  9. The other exhibit you refer to is titled "From the Private Collections of Texas". This exhibit will end on March 21. I had originally planned to see this as well, but what was originally intended to be a solo trip with plenty of time to soak it all in, ended up being an excercise in seeing how long two six year olds (niece and nephew) patience can last!
My son, my wife, brother and sister in law and their two six year olds ended up tagging along. Oh well, hopefully a small seed of creativity will germinate in their minds.

  10. I have a daily grind of my own. I work near downtown, but I just go down Marsh/Lemmon and it takes me practicallystraight there. I have gone down I-35; usually it's not to bad, then, wham, one day you're in the middle of a sea of cars.

They have an exhibit there now that I want to see, one of paintings owned by private owners in Texas. I've heard it's very good.

Michaelangelo's first, huh? I'll have to check it out when I go, if I go.
