  1. Oh I read The Power and the Glory last year. It was an outstanding work. By the way Gladys you might be interested in my reads 2011 blog. Here: http://www.online-literature.com/for...og.php?b=12138. Hope you have a blessed coming year.
  2. And Christmas greetings to you and I offer in return the duet from Kantate BWV 63.

I've been reading George Eliot lately and enjoying the psychology as much as the philosophy. I've just finished Graham Greene's The Power and the Glory, an exploration of Christian ethics in extremis, and started Guy de Maupassant Fort comme la mort.
  3. Merry Christmas Gladys. We haven't spoken in a while. I hope you have a special holiday.

Here's a present and a card for you.

  4. Thanks Virgil, I'll have a go, having just finished James's The Wings of the Dove, which I adored. As further motive: my son's wrapped in Creative Writing - short stories - in his first year at university.
  5. There's a really good discussion on J.D. Salinger's short story, "A Perfect Day For A Banana Fish" here: http://www.online-literature.com/for...ad.php?t=54812. And if you don't have the story, there's a link there to read it on line. Maybe you can join in.
  6. Hiya Gladys

I finally concluded the critical interpretations of The Turn of the Screw (Remember that? ) and have put together a definitive reading of the story. I think it's conclusive as to whether the ghosts are real or not. I've put together five posts, since it's rather long, all on this page of the thread: http://www.online-literature.com/for...d=1#post915463.

Hope you'll want to satop back and read what I've put together. Feel free to comment.
  7. If you're interested, an update on our adoption: http://www.online-literature.com/for...3#comment49003.
  8. I wish you both well in your overseas adoption adventure.
  9. I thought I finished off my comments on Persuasion. But I'm still working on my comments for TOTS. Yes, I did make something. Most of the scholars do believe there was a real ghost. I just have to put that together. I will probably do so in Kazakhstan. We'll be off probably next week. Are you aware my wife and I are adopting?

  10. Good to hear from you, Virgil. Did you ever get back to Persuasion? I've since read Emma, with marked disappointment.

Did you make anything more of The Turn of the Screw? I rather doubted you would. I have finished a few Dostoevsky novellas and I'm back with James' on The Wings of the Dove.
