Virgil, I just read your blog and I really appreciated it. I believe that the military is overall good for men. I know that it was an experience that shaped my husband into the man that he is. I was actually a quality that I was seeking in a spouse. It may sound foolish but I was looking for ex-air force, which he is. Each branch seems to have their own kind of experience and leave it's own mark. My own experience in the reserves was enjoyable and educational even if it was brief. When it comes to the thought of my own sons going to war I feel very differently. Even during peacetime our soldiers face dangers and fighting. It breaks my heart to think of giving my children. I cry when I think of it. I even wonder if I would have the courage to shoot them each in one foot to possibly prevent their ability to join. I know that these solders made a great sacrifice, but I think it's their mothers who have made the ultimate sacrifice It would be much easier to loose one's own live that to bury one's child. So I always think of the mothers on Memorial Day.
Thanks, Virgil. I'm hoping that I can read it on Friday. It seems like there has been one thing and another going on! I'm ready for the kids to be out of school so that we don't have to do as much running.
Sily me. I responded to your note in my page in my own page. Sorry. This was how I responded this morning: Mom-H, the story actually started on page 182 of the thread with Janine's post of #2727. There you will find the link to the electronic version of the story. It's not a very long story, I think about 14 or so pages in my text, so it won't take you long to read it and get into it. I didn't realize we had 17 pages of lit net thread going on this. It's been a wonderful discussion and we still have more to go. Some of the discussion has been off topic. You can skip that fairly easily. I would love for you to join. I think you would get a real appreciation for Lawrence's writing from this story. here's the link to page 182 of the thread: http://www.online-literature.com/for...37250&page=182
Right now it's called "Wintry Peacock." It's not a long story but it's a fascinating one. If you go back eight or nine pages you can find the link to get the electronic version. It's really produced a great discussion. You might want to persuse the discussion and throw your two cents worth in here. We have not discussed what the next story is, but i suspect we have a few more weeks with this still. I'll go find the link for you.
Virgil, What short story is up for discussion in the D.H. Lawrence's Short Stories Thread right now? I'd really like in on the next one. ANy idea when the next story will begin? are you very far into this one?
Which book, Mom-H?
Well, I've spent the afternoon crying and I plan on spending my night much the same way. I'm really glad I checked this book out. Thanks for recommending it.
I wanted to tell you I started a book of short stories by Faulkner and I am enjoying them.
Nothing special. Just lots of good food. Smae as every year. Have a joyous Easter.
do you have somethin special planned with your mom tomorrow? Whenever there is a holiday I think of what I was doing at that time last year and wonder where I'll be this time next year. Next year I'll be doing my student teaching. Have you given any thought to what you'll be doing?
