Last week I went to a poetry reading. I haven't been to one for a long time, not since the Library closed, and I felt it was about time. Or, more to the point, I felt it was the right poet.

It is probably no surprise, considering we all know how I feel about the weather that I sleep better when it is cold, in fact on windy nights I usually always open up my bedroom window because I love the feel of the cold air as I am going to sleep but for the past few days or so I have not been feeling very well. Navels. Valencia. Blood. Indian River. If your mouth is watering right now for some of that sweet juice, then you know what I'm talkin' about. That's right. Oranges: the Pulitzer prize winning book by John McPhee. As the title suggests the book is a natural history of the cultivated orange.

It's a wonderful book. As with all of McPhee's work the prose is sharp, witty, and direct.

1. Today we completed the official bonding period. This past Friday we signed a bunch of papers essentially requesting from the Baby House Matthew for adoption. I’m not even sure what I signed. I remember one document was a statement that we would not hold the Physicians and the Baby House liable for anything--even out here they are litigation sensitive—and we signed the log book for each day’s appearance during the bonding period.
