  1. Anonymous Harassment

by , 11-23-2018 at 12:50 PM (Memories of the 28th Century)
Recently, I learned that someone is harassing me by making anonymous allegations about me to the police, and, of course, the police won't tell me who, but as far as I know, it is not anyone that I know. It used to be that if someone wanted to make an accusation to the police, then their names would be available on the complaint, and the accused could see that. Apparently that isn't required anymore, so a complete stranger can make an anonymous accusation, and get away with it. there's nothing that ...
  2. Cherry Picking

Yesterday, I noticed a post on my Facebook newsfeed about carbon dioxide in the past and climate change. It quickly became apparent that the data was incomplete, and someone had already posted a note about that. I posted links to two similar articles that had more complete information, and, of course, my comments were heartily criticized, because the original was from NASA, while I posted links by people who do make their livings backing an issue.

Since then I have been thinking ...
  3. Character Abduction

by , 11-01-2018 at 09:03 AM (Memories of the 28th Century)
Recently I was writing a story about Harry visiting Atlantis, and Plato entered into the story for obvious reasons, and that got me to thinking about using people and characters as characters. That was especially true, when I was trying to use Socrates as a character also, but that didn't work out, because his execution came too early in Plato's career. But that didn't stop me from wondering what Socrates was actually like in the real world. That was after I realized that I didn't think much of ...
  4. Another Week In The Life Of A Pianist

by , 10-30-2018 at 06:02 PM (Kiz_Paws Bag Of Trix)
Woo, another very busy week in the life of a pianist.

This weekend I have the privilege of playing with a band, ten music pieces need to be played.

There will be a trombonist, a trumpet player, a drummer, a bass player and a lead guitar (12-string acoustic … and damn he is good). As well, a singer, who I have met and worked with before … *phew* … (singers can be nightmares, believe me).

I am familiar with a few of the pieces, but there are three pieces ...
  5. Spotting the Lies

by , 10-26-2018 at 01:51 PM (Memories of the 28th Century)
I was working on a work of fiction, when I realized that what I had one character complain about was a major problem in today's world. The character was talking about setting up a school that would teach the basics of Rhetoric and Logic, so that the graduates would later be able to make better arguments and to detect fallacious arguments. The problem is that most people never learn the basics of argumentation and logic, so they can't tell when someone is using a logical fallacy, and much of the ...
