We will have plenty of whiskey nights to solve the problems of the world and ignore our own soon enough!

Good Luck Skib! You write a hell of a blog!
Why thank you Prend! I'm afraid this is the best I could do. My writing has taken a back seat to things like the activities above- whiskey, faith and love. Not so much of the suicide part though, thank goodness. I had the inspiration for this piece sitting on a ledge with a bottle of Sweet Tea bourbon contemplating how far my faith would carry me years ago.
HA! yeah, there's a few girls that hang out over on Linden . . . kidding. If i could pony up that much dough I certainly wouldn't spend it there. I'll get better though. Living in a desolate place like Encampment only made things worse, but you're right Mr. The Comedian. Time is doing it's thing, as well as moving somewhere with more distractions. I'm on my way to find me some Keith Whitley songs right now.
Good stuff as ever Skib. Whisky faith love and suicide.
Pony up some cash and purchase the services of a lady of the night for an evening (or two) -- should put you back on the level. <-- kidding I've been there skib. I filled up journals about M--, a girl I was just crazy about in college. But I never had the guts to spill my guts to her. And the usual self-wrenching anxieties followed: self-loathing, heavy drinking, copious poetry writing, and so on. . . . Time and a change of scene are the best cure; they always are. . . . that and maybe to Keith Whitley songs.
Much enjoyed. Hope she can replace Jack.
Hey Skib, thought we'd lost you to the gods of the great mountain ranges! I loved your story. Chick lit-maybe, but it shows the dark, beating, oh so mysterious heart of a man; not something we get to see very often!
Sounds like a chick novel. Hey, nice to hear from you.
Juniper- Oh, no, I'm still here! I don't have any internet at the ranch so I don't get on much. But I'll be back someday, hopefully with some stories to tell. Becs- I would never ask you to. Thank you, though. I was beginning to fear I'd lost my touch.
Remind me never to drive with you But seriously. This is completely characteristic of your writing- your subject matter is often dark but your prose is uniquely beautiful.
It's great to hear from you! I was just thinking about you last week and wondering if you were going to come back. I was just about to go to sleep, and I haven't gotten round to reading your entry yet, but I just wanted to say that I'm glad you didn't forget about us and I'll read this one tomorrow.
@ Prend- I hope you've had a somewhat better year than us! Even with the warm weather we've still had odd losses. @ Paulclem- thank you! Interesting in a bad way is certainly better than boring! @ Fifth- I'll do my best! @ The Comedian- Any good, decent feeling puff or splatter will do. Rapid sequence, well, I suppose you'll have to be the judge of it. @ Virgil- Well, just because I'm legal now doesn't mean I'm any better off! The truck is in the works. Still got a few kinks and glitches, but it's coming along. Calving is never dull. There's always some sort of complication! @ Becca- thank you my dear! The season is about the warmest pre-spring I can remember! @ Carly- Old Mikey's full of little retorts like that! It keeps things entertaining! I wouldn't say brilliant . . . I like to think of myself like a resilient fungus that won't quit . . .
Ahhahaha! I loved your little story at the end there. You must be a brilliant worker if you're not really having to look for work
I miss calving season on the family farm. Wait a minute. Outdoors, severe minus temperatures, gusty wind, frozen water... no I don't. Enjoy the season, and congratulations on a step up in the ranching world!
Well, now that you're over 21 you'll have to get yourself a more reliable vehicle. Good luck. Calving sounds like something I wold love to see. Heck, I've never seen puppies being born. Now that i think of it, I've never seen a human being born either.
Ha! You know that I want to keep a fart-tally now. But how do you count a rapid sequence? As just one? Or is each malodorous puff count as one?
I love your blogs skib. I'll miss seeing you around, but it sounds like you've got a great opportunity there. Go grab it with both arms. I hope you have a great time, and will pop in and let us know how you're getting along now and then. *Sigh* one day you'll miss that 'under 21' on your licence.
Interesting blog Skib.
