What Has Become

I see you slipping away
while I stand motionless
you become lost within the cracks
after so much

And what can I do
as I watch from behind a mask
recounting my sins in my mind
I tally up my guilt

But words escape me
as you strive to self-destruct
differences grow wider
and I am left standing
on the outside

You throw away
everything you have strived for
broke beneath the back
of this deformed society
no longer willing to try and keep
your head above water

While so much undeserving
have their glory
you lay down the way
no longer willing to make the stand

Dreams broken and lost
memories haunting
in the shadows
resigned to your fate
while I sit and wait

As times perhaps there
was more I could say
but you make your own way
so one more flame
will be snuffed out.
