  1. Doom and Gloom

Hey I just noticed in the new format, one can embed videos. Let me be the first blogger to do so.

As you may have heard, The Rolling Stones are in their 50th anniversary as a band and are going to have a mini celebration tour. So far two sites with two dates each are scheduled: The O2 Arena in London at the end of November (25th and 29th) and the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ in December (12th and 15th). As some may know, I am a huge Rolling Stones fan, and December 15th is ...

  2. Stress and Frustration at Work

I hate to write an angry blog. I have so many ideas for positive blogs just waiting to be written (Walt Whitman’s poetry, the great baseball season the Baltimore Orioles had this year, coping with Matthew’s terrible twos, etc.) but time and laziness has prevented me from writing them. But venting is an incredible motivator, and so this one gets written. Be aware this is a work related blog, so names have been changed and details are avoided for internet anonymity. 3. The Staten Island Ferris Wheel

OK, I haven’t exactly made up my mind on whether this is a good idea, but it’s going to happen. New York City in its wisdom will be building the largest Ferris wheel in the world and it will be located on Staten Island, my home town borough. Quick New York City geography lesson: NYC is made up of five boroughs – Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staten_Island), the last one there the smallest, least populated, least known, often called the “forgotten ...

Also the 3-D modeling program supposedly “typically used in aerospace” is nothing special and not just used in aerospace. It’s probably Pro/ENGINEER software (here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creo_Elements/Pro); all mechanical engineers use it, not just aerospace. Nonetheless it makes me proud as a mechanical engineer.

  5. Neil A. Armstrong, 1930-2012, RIP

He was one of my boyhood heroes. His very name rings with adventure, challenge, and achievement. Who can forget that Apollo 11 mission? With his passing goes the magic and glory of youth. I remember as an eight year old boy at my grandmother’s house with what must have been close to twenty family members sitting in front of a black and white TV. Here's a nice news clip.
