Memories of the 28th Century

Miscellaneous thoughts about miscellaneous matters

  1. Is There Hope?

by , 05-11-2022 at 12:36 PM (Memories of the 28th Century)
I was thinking about a new topic for a blog without much success. I have a few half written posts that didn't come together, but a few minutes I came across a post on a forum in which someone was asking about optimistic nihilist characters. I looked into the concept as it is handled online, and I realized that I am not one, and the philosophy is opposed to what I think. Apparently, there are people who believe that they live in a meaningless universe with no raison d'etre. I feel sorry for them. ...
  2. Where's the Hype

by , 05-08-2022 at 01:52 PM (Memories of the 28th Century)
A skill that is nice to have is the ability to tell the difference between hype and facts. People often say “Follow the money.” and that is one of the best methods for determining which is what.

If you remember the bottled water campaign and followed the money before buying bottled water, then you would have learned that the campaign was from the marketing department of Nestles, and it had started shortly after Nestles had bought three bottled water companies in the U.S., so the ...
  3. Inflation Policy

by , 04-27-2022 at 10:38 AM (Memories of the 28th Century)
I saw a letter to the Editor in the Daily Hampshire Gazette that asserted that present inflation was a result of Biden’s policies. That is a false accusation. There has been inflation at substantial levels for several decades, and it has been a deliberate policy of the U.S. government. The inflation policy was established to ensure that the government could make money by selling long term bonds.

Bonds are sold by the Treasury Department with a fixed interest payment, and the actual ...
  4. Women Are Superior

by , 04-20-2022 at 09:21 AM (Memories of the 28th Century)
I saw something on Facebook that suggested that women were inferior to men. That is clearly absurd, but there probably are some people who think that, so I started this blog post, and I tried to think of ways that men are superior to women; the only thing I could think of was the manner of urination.

I looked for evidence and opinions on the matter, and there are many, and some provide evidence, while others state somethings in evidence that are not evidence of the superiority of ...
  5. Targetting Older People

by , 04-06-2022 at 12:10 PM (Memories of the 28th Century)
I have noticed that advertisers seem to have no respect for the intelligence and knowledge of people of retirement age and older. The products advertised for seniors assume that the seniors are either in poor health or mentally retarded. And I can’t forget that woman with the creaky voice who tells us that she has fallen and can’t get up.

There must be people who buy such things, but they probably were taken in by fraudulent advertising when they were younger also, so they probably ...
