Bookreviewer, <br> You seem to think that the knowledge of these characters are as limited as your own, although they lived in the 1800's and you almost 200 years on. Have you considered that our ancestors were living in different times to us now and that the society they lived in would have also been different in that they were often more encouraged to think for themselves and that their whole lifestyle, would have involved a lot more than watching tv and playing computer games. Many of the things mentioned in the novel would no doubt have been a part of their lives at some point in time.
