I don't know how good this book is yet, because I am only on the first part chapter 29, I don't know how long this book is in Russian/Italian, but in English- The version I am reading it's 851 pages, of course I not saying that's a long book, but if the book is that good, after you finish or close to finish, you'll always feel that way:" Why is Don Quixote so short?" "Why is les Miserables so short?"

The one important thing i felt after reading this book was that , Leo Tolstoy had the unique talent to look into a persons mind. Most of the thoughts of the characters are very much similar to a common man's thought when faced with that kind of situation . I myself felt that he has written in the book, some feelings that I felt, but could not express in words.

Thats the genius of Tolstoy. He was able to express peoples feelings in WORDS

I am at 3/4 of the book and i already consider this one of the most beautiful novel i have ever read. I started reading it in italian (my own idiom) AND russian togheter, just to learn some more russian, but i soon left the incredible task because i was too caught by the story itself and by one thing: it really seems that Lev knew how to read in human minds and to write down on paper what he saw. One sentence and he could describe my own feelings better than i could. It is very interesting for a person who needs insights in russian culture, it is involving for those who love romance and those interested in social topics. It is very rich, a must-read if u love sagas. Actually, now that i am at 3/4 of the story i wonder "why is this novel so short, i am sure there's more to say about Anna, Vronsky, Levin, Kitty.. how could u do this in the few remaining pages ?? "

Earlier posts have touched upon Tolstoy's excellent ablility to transform the ineffable fellings of men into beautifully accurate literature. Levin's revelations towards the end of the novel are among the most beautiful passages of literature ever written. Tolstoy was the master of conveying his higher-level thinking in almost simple ways. Anna Karenina is second only to War and Peace.
