I have just read this book and I really enjoyed it. Unlike in Northanger Abbey, I really cared for the main character and found the run up to the end so exciting. Whereas before when I read Austen I found the characters so pathetic: walking round the pump room, put off by rain, obsessed by their companions, this novel gave me a great appreciation of Austen and has enouraged me to read more. I never thought that Austen would be exciting, but it is and I reccommend this book rather than Northanger Abbey to enjoy Austen as a exceedingly competent writer.
