I am study Jekyll and Hyde for my English Literature coursework. I feel this is a very descriptive and inflencial book in terms of society's battle with 'evil overcoming good'. Howver, I am finding the language very difficualt to understand, although i can identify the ain lots in each individual chapter quite well.
I was told that not only was Jekyll and Hyde about a 'doppelganger' but also about the 2 levels or sides to edinburgh in the late 1800's- the Old and the New and personally i feel this is a very relevant point. Also the comparison of Hyde with the 'Victorian Gentleman' of the times written by John Henry Cardinal Newman is also useful to see how a normal man would have been expected to behave and how Hyde did exactly the opposite.
At the moment i am planning my coursework about the anlaysis of evil within the novel, any feedback would be interesting.
