This work may have broken my spirit in some ways. I came from a background where I was the first in my family in 3 generations to graduate from High School. My quest for higher education was a crippling one, full of pyrric victories, and genuine defeats.<br><br>Jude showed me places in my own life that were just as hopeless as Jude's.<br>I don't think I have ever really recovered from this book. Indeed, I feel like Jude's brother under the skin.
