I loved this book. Although the speeches were at times drawn out and confusing, there is a timeless message there. It's all about love and pride and accepting there are some things you can't change or control. Like people or emotions. The humour and wit in the novel is excellent if you appreciate it. For those of you that don't like the novel I recommend the film. It has all the same meaning and message the book conveys, only in a less detailed way.
