I was born and live in Bulgaria. If u are not aware of that country - it is in Eastern Europe, next ot Greece and Turkey. <br>I disagree with some opinions stated here that the book is about Communism. Though the Stalinism was /I suppose/ the basis, the plot does not develop in the USSR or another Communist country, but .... in the UK. That is why Orwell implies to the British society, not the Soviet or other one. Of course, living in a Communist state was not as if living in a non-Communist one. But basicly it is the same - more or less. The main virtue of the so called democracy is MONEY and of communism - it is BELIEF. When people stop to believe they start to cheat and turn to money. That is what actually happened in the Eastern Europe countries. Money became the primal virtue, just like in other parts of the world. And when there is money - there is no virtue.
