Most people don't realize that communism, or at least Marxism, doesn't necessarily reflect a governmental concept, but rather an economical one. Capitalism advocates that business is in the hands of the people, and so anyone can run their own business. The downside is monopolies and little control over the whims and cheats of capitalists. Communism advocates that business is in the hands of the government, who regulate everything and have control fo industries. The downsides to communism are fairly large, I grant you. However, I'd just like to say that Animal Farm does not put down communism, but rather Russian Communism and the russian revolution, along with totalitarianism. It is a stirring satire of the Actonian thesis that, when power is placed into one person or group of people, then power is corrupted absolutely. The U.S., for instance, has developed a Burnhamian managerial system to prevent that, in which power is divided so much that whenever one group wants to gain power, there are other groups eaisly waiting to take it down. The President of the U.S. has a lot of power, but he lacks complete authority. If the democratic and republican parties were to ever consolidate, however, we would be ina bit of a pickle then.
