I also had to read this book for English. When I was first reading it I didn't think it was anything special and was often bored in some chapters. Because of that I often had to resort to getting notes from other people. Now that I look back on Animal Farm (and after taking AP Government), I see how very philosophical George Orwell can be. The whole idea of a totalitarian government being overthrown by socialism and then conquered by communism is greatly shown in this novel as it is in the Russian/Soviet past. Right now I am reading 1984 and I am a bit surprised by the facist ideals in the book. It's pretty scary when you think about it.
