For a bizarre twyst: I had a dream after working on a personal analogy of the film Babe (the Universal pictures film about the pig who becomes a Sheep-pig) that brought me back to this book which naturally like for most American kids of my generation (c. 1960) was required reading. I think there's rich material for discussion comparing the two. Issues of preconceptions about humanity, etc. Seems it will hit an optimisitic note on a rather pessimistic view of human nature, and perhaps some of the young'uns that have to read this book will find new material for their essays!
