Wuthering Heights from the first chapter onward gives one overwhelming impression of the author- that of a very deep character coupled with a searching spirit. Wuthering Heights is a tale of extremes that are used to show the theme rather than for entertainment value. It is a book loved (and hated) because it subjects the human spirit to sympathetic analysis. Who is not part Cathy, or Heathcliff, or Linton?
