i had to read this book for a summer reading for my a.p. english class. at first i thought it was so stupid and hard to understand, but after like the first fifty pages, i found it was a great soap opera. i thought it had a great plot and hardy used so many allusions that totally helped bring his characters alive, (ie;bathsheba, gabrial) if you have to read it, hang in there and i think you will find that it really is a great book. if you find it completly boering, get the foot notes but atleast skim the book.
