This book is an amazing novel, especially when you consider Crane was not even born when the Civil War was being fought. Then look at the hero vs coward conflict. It is a brilliant novel. If anyone is having trouble getting into the novel, it's very common. But if you do get into it, it can be one of the best books you will ever read.
