...but is Jaques' departure from the play, an extreme melancholy which is his form of happiness ( and yet contrast to the others' happiness) really any more realistic than everyone else's glee? I don't see it as realistic, just juxtapositon. How do you see it as realistic?<br><br>- from a gal in production right now as Rosalind

I think the character of Jaques is quite significant within this play. There is darkness in the character, and he shows Shakespeare's maturation as a playwright. Jaques gives us an untidy, mixed ending, which the audience can see as slightly more realistic.
